Humans of New York ~ Brandon Stanton

Book Review:
This is not a traditional book, but rather a collection of beautiful photography and blurbs for each picture. Brandon Stanton, started to take pictures of people around NYC, about 10 years ago and began a Facebook Page to catalogue them, that page, has turned into something so extraordinary. I have been following his endeavors for awhile and when I finally was able to pick up this book, I did! It was worth the purchase!

The stories were interesting to read and the pictures were gorgeously captured, both candidly and posed. I would recommend this to everyone! I can't wait to get my hands on Humans of New York: Stories.

August 2016 TBR

This is going to be another very slow reading month. Thankfully, one of my jobs is finished on the 11th, which may give me a bit of extra time, but I move into college on the 25th and my classes start on the 29th, so do not hold me to that.

Les Miserables
This is something that has been on my TBR for ages and I really want to read it before college starts because I know that once college starts I will not have time to immerse myself in such a lengthy piece of literature. It is over 1000 pages.

12 Years A Slave
This is another book that has been on my TBR for a while and with all of the racial issues going on in this country, thee USA, currently, I felt that it was time that I got to it.

July 2016 Wrap Up

This month was a very hard reading month. I started another job on te 11th, had a temporary position for a week, and had my college orientation. Nevertheless, I still read a few books.

The Secret Circle: the end of book 2 and all of 3
This installment was better than the first, but so far, the series isn't living up to all of my expectations. To find out more, read my book review that was posted yesterday.

My Beloved World: Audiobook
This is the second audiobook that I have listened to, all of the way though. And I really enjoyed it.

Humans of New York
Some people may say that this isn't a real book, but just because it doesn't fall under the traditional guidelines of a book, does not mean that it isn't. The photography is beautiful and the short blurbs and stories for each image made me see things in so many different ways when paired with the photos.

The Secret Circle: The Captive Part 2 and The Power ~ L.J. Smith

Caught in the struggle between good and evil . . .
Cassie has joined the most alluring—and deadly—in-crowd imaginable. But power comes with a price, and it's more dangerous than she knows. Torn between the dueling desires of the two leaders of the Secret Grcle, she must ultimately choose between saving all of New Salem, and her own dangerous love for the bewitching Adam, which threatens to tear the circle apart. In the ultimate battle between good and evil, will Cassie's supernatural powers be strong enough to lead the coven out of danger? Or will she foil prey to the dark forces within?
. . . will she sacrifice her love for the circle to survive?

Book Review:

I think that that this installment was slightly better than the first book. I am now able to understand the dynamics of the circle a bit more and although, it took ages, Cassie, is finally a bit more sure of herself. She is a bit more confident and doesn't just follow the group, even though that didn't happen until later in the book. My hatred for Faye, grew so much more deeply.

*Spoilers* I hate how Cassie allowed herself to be blackmailed by Faye, instead of seeking help from Adam. I hate how Cassie used Nick in a way, because he really did care for her. If I didn't want Cassie to be with Adam so badly I would really want her with Nick, I think that they could really bring the best out in each other. I'm glad that Cassie found out who her father is and I am also glad that Diana is perfectly okay with Cassie and Adam's relationship in the end.

I am really looking forward to the rest of the series now that they have to fight Black John. I am also curious to learn more about Cassie's book of Shadows and see how her relationship with Adam florishes.

Favorite Quote:

“The Henderson brothers never fell for a girl before, but they dont't know if they're on their heads or their feet anymore. I think they're going to make you a pipe bomb for Christmas.” - I just thought that this was funny. All of the boys in the group find Cassie appealing. Adam, Nick, Th Henderson brothers, and scaredy cat Sean.
