Gilmore Girls Book Tag

In honor of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiering on Friday, November 25th, the coming days will be full of Gilmore Love! This is my version of the Gilmore Girls Book Tag. I watched vlogger readbyzoe's version and then I added characters that I felt were too important to not be included and I also ignored the prompts. So the basic premise of this tag is that you pair a book to a character based on their personality.

Lorelai Gilmore: a fiercely independent, determined, hilarious, caffeine addict who wears her heart on her sleeve.
The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead: There are so many books that could be paired with Lorelai due to their strong female leads, but I chose one of my absolute favorites. Rose Hathaway, one of the leading ladies in the series, is so strong and fierce. She doesn't need a man to complete her and could get on all alone if she had to, but as Lorelai eventually does, she finds love and it only makes her stronger in the best possible way.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Rory Gilmore:  a determined, intelligent, moral, caring, curious caffeine addict, who, like her mother, wears her heart on her sleeve. (I resonate with Rory the most, out of all of the characters on the show.)
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks: I know that A Walk to Remember is probably the greatest tear jerker that I have ever read, but Jamie reminds me so much of Rory. She could care less that she is dying, all she cares about is those that she loves and that they are happy after she dies. She is truly awe-inspiring, just as Rory is.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Emily Gilmore: a strong (as all Gilmore women are), classy, snobbish woman who only wants the best for her family, but has a strange way of showing it.
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen: Now I haven't read this book and I only know the basic premise of it, but for some reason, when I think of Emily Gilmore, I think Pride & Prejudice and that is my only validation for it.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Richard Gilmore: an intelligent, stoic, protective patriarch who loves and has so much pride in his granddaughter more than anyone else in the entire world,
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee: Richard reminds so much of Atticus Finch. The way he acts with his family, his work ethic, and everything else in the novel reminds me of  Richard.
________________________________________________________________________________

Luke Danes: the true father figure in Rory's life, hater of cell phones, constantly angry, incredible uncle, a man who does his best and the only person that should ever make coffee in all of Stars Hollow.
American Sniper by Chris Kyle: As I was wracking my brain for a character or a book that remined me of Luke Danes, the only one that came to mind was American Sniper. I know that there must be a better and more suited novel out there, but I still feel like Chris Kyle and Luke Danes would be great friends and fishing buddies!
_________________________________________________________________________________

Dean: the perfect first boyfriend
The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins:  Peta and Dean are so similar. They would both do anything for the girls that they love. They are certainly the perfect firsts!
_________________________________________________________________________________

Jess: the dark, mysterious new boy, who has a very sweet side that only a few are allowed to see.
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks: Now I know that I already used this for Rory, but it really is the only option for Jess too. He was raised by a single mother and was labelled the bad boy, just like Landon; but with the help of a girl, his true side showed itself. Jess is so smart and such a deep and passionate thinker. (I may be slightly biased, though.)
_________________________________________________________________________________

Logan: the typical rich and reckless 20-something-year-old. He doesn't care about anyone but himself and getting laid, when we first meet him anyway.
The Girl Online series by Zoe Sugg: Logan and Rory's relationship reminds me a lot of Noah and Penny's relationship. Noah is a popstar who could have anyone but he wants Penny and he's good for Penny. He helps Penny bring herself out of her shell. Logan is the same way when it comes to Rory.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Lane: a smart and sassy talented musician but an even better best friend
The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series by Ann Brashares: The friendship that Rory and Lane has is unbreakable, just like the friendships between the sisterhood. I hope to one day have a friendship as strong, safe, and endearing as theirs.
________________________________________________________________________________

Suki: a silly, sweet, amazing friend and cook
Tanya Bakes by Tanya Burr: Of course I had to go with a cookbook, but the personality behind Tanya Burr is so sweet and naive, that she reminds me so much of Suki
_________________________________________________________________________________
Paris Geller: she starts out as the annoying arch nemisis but ends up as a solid best friend.
Burn for Burn series by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian: girls in this series were brought together because of a common vengeance, but Paris and Rory were brought together because of their common love of knowledge.

Tag Tuesday: Coffee Tag

  • Black - a book that is hard to get into but has a ton of die hard fans
    • Some of my best friends, whose opinions I respect so much, loved this book and the rest of the series. Therefore, I had extremely high expectations for the series and I was completely let down. I actually hated the book to the point that I am not planning on continuing with the series.
  • Peppermint Mocha - a book that is popular around the holiday season
  • This is really the only holiday book that I have ever read.... oops. It was great though.
  • Hot Chocolate - a children's book that you love
  • At first, I thought about putting any book by Dr. Suess; they were the books that I learned to read with. Then I thought about putting any of the Harry Potter books as they are technically labeled as children's books. Eventually and finally, I settled on Matilda, this book was probably the first book where I really resonated with a character. I was a lot like Matilda; I loved to read, obviously,  and I was a bit of the outsider in my family because of that, that's still how it is actually, I never had the abusive issues that Matilda experienced or the terrible school teacher but I resonated with her nonetheless. I used to reread this book a hundred times and never get sick of it. I'm actually in the mood to read it again.
  • Starbucks - a book that you literally see everywhere
  • I see this everywhere I turn and I have no interest in reading it!!!
  • Hipster Coffee Shop - a book by an author that you love
  • This is probably my favorite book out the Harry Potter series and JK Rowling, is hands down, my favorite author because of these masterpieces.
  • Oooops, I accidently got decaf - a book that you were expecting so much more from
  • *WARNING* This is probably an unpopular bookish opinion!!! I wanted to love this book so much because it is by John Green and I love everything else that he has written, but I couldn't get half-way through this book before I put it down. I just didn't like it. I haven't been able to identify why, but I didn't. I might pick it up again and give it another shot, but who knows?
  • Perfect Blend - a book with the perfect combination of bitter and sweet
  • This is probably my favorite Nicholas Sparks novel ever, and I have read almost all of them. The love story between Landon and Jaime is perfectly romantic, sweet, innocent, complex, and everything you can imagine. The tragedy is predictable but it still hurts like nothing else could. The end is the definition of bittersweet.
  • Green Tea - a book that is quietly beautiful
  • This was one of those books that dealt with such difficult situations, a young girl's suicide and how it affects the people that she left behind, but because of that was so beautiful. It was impeccably written and the situations were handled with gorgeously.
  • Chai Tea - a book that makes you dream of far off places
  • This book just made me want to do a study abroad year even more and fall in love with a foreign guy. Maybe in Spain.

#AYearAThon #Romance Girl Online: On Tour ~ Zoe Sugg (a.k.a Zoella)

Penny joins her rock-star boyfriend on the road in Europe.

When Noah invites Penny on his first-ever European tour, she can’t wait to spend the summer with her rock-god-tastic boyfriend.

But, between Noah’s jam-packed schedule, less-than-welcoming band mates, and threatening messages from jealous fans, Penny wonders whether she’s really cut out for life on tour. She can’t help but miss her family, her best friend Elliot, and her blog, “Girl Online.”

Can Penny learn to balance life and love on the road, or will she lose everything in pursuit of the perfect summer?

Book Review:

It only took me a couple of days to finish this book. Just like the first one, it was a super quick read. I just really wanted to know how things were going to end. Was Penny going to be able to figure out how to date a rockstar boyfriend? Was she going to be able to manage her anxiety on tour? Would she ever start blogging again, publically? Etc.

I love Noah and Penny's relationship. No matter how big he gets, he really does care for her and she is on his mind. I just really hate the people that come between them. I really do love how Penny finds a frind in Leah Brown while they are on tour because she needs a good female friend. I do wish that Elliot had gotten to go on tour with them though. Oh and I really hate Noah's manager, Dean!!!

Because this is a second installment I can't say too much without giving anything away so if you have read it, go on to my discussion. If not, read them!!!

Pages: 352                                                                                                                               Rate: 5/5

Book Discussion: SPOILERS:

Probably the most exciting part for me was the end, when Penny starts blogging publically again. I feel like that was missing so much in this installment. I really missed it. I also really loved how Noah came back to help Alex win Elliot back being as a good part of their break up was because of him.

So lets discuss Noah and Penny. They were so cute in the beginning but you could also tell that a rocky patch was coming. Noah was becoming this huge success and touring was obviously taking a lot out of him, meaning less time was being spent with Penny. I mean, I really liked that Penny got to explore the cities herself, because with her anxiety, I wasn't sure how comfortable she was going to be doing that and I didn't want her holed up in her room all of the time waiting for Noah. I was really worried about her with TheRealShift mailing them all of that weird blackmail after her phone was stolen. Now I was suspicious about this story line, and rightly so!!

Noah and Penny's entire break up, courtesy of their already rocky situation and Blake making it worse, that lying bastar, broke my heart. I still pictured that as that sweet little Girl Online and Brooklyn Boy. I wanted those cute moments back again. When she finally texted him to talk while he was in town for a show, I'm pretty sure that I screamed! Then we find out that Dean is TheRealShift and Noah fires him!! I wanted to high five that boy so hard!!! Those entire few pages weree incredible.

I also love that the ending wasn't definitive. Basically, Penny states that she loves him and that he loves her and somehow they will figure it out together.

Book Tag Tuesday: Would You Rather?

I do not plan on doing a book tag every Tuesday. When I find a tag that I find interesting, I will do it, and post it for the next available Tuesday. Do not expect one every Tuesday!!!

Would you rather read only a series or stand-alone books?
This is difficult for me to answer because I love so many of both. If I had to choose... I think that I would choose to read series, mainly because I get so attached to characters and worlds and series allow me to live in them longer.

Would you rather read a book whose main character is male or female?
I usually gravitate towards a book with a female protagonist because I can more readily relate to a female, as I am one myself. But don't get me wrong, some of m favorite books have male protagonists. For example one of my favorite stand-alones, Looking For Alaska by John Green, has a male main character. My all time favorite series, Harry Potter by JK Rowling, has a male main character.

Would you rather shop at only Barnes & Nobel (or other actual book store) or Amazon?
There is no doubt in my mind that I would choose Barnes & Nobel (or other actual book store). I love being in a book store surrounded by others who love books.

Would you rather all books become movies or TV shows?
Movies. With TV shows there is so much more of a chance for the story to be messed with, for the beauty of the book to be lost.

Would you rather read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
If I had the time to read 5 books per week my life would be amazing!!! Lately, I barely have time to read 5 pages per week with the amount of homework that I have.

Would you rather be a professional book reviewer or author?
Author. I haven't found my voice in my writing yet, but author definitely.

Would you rather read the same 20 books over and over or read a new book every 6 months?
This one is probably the toughest question on here.... a new book every 6 months. Even though I read quickly, I would just reread that book a couple of times. LOOPHOLES!!!!

Would you rather be a librarian or own a book store?
This one was easy for me. I have wanted to own a book store for as long as I can remember. I even have the layout in my head.

Would you rather only read your favorite genre or favorite author?
Favorite genre because then I could discover new favorite authors.

Would you rather only read physical books or ebooks?
I love both so much but if I had to choose I would definitely pick physical books because there is just something about holding a book in your hand that makes your day so much better.
